What Affects the Price of Blue Pottery?
- Size and number of pieces: a single mug costs a few hundred rupees, while a full dinner set has 43 hand-painted pieces.
- Painting detail: dense, fine naqashi patterns take longer to paint than simple borders.
- Handmade vs machine-made: genuine Multani pieces are shaped, glazed and painted by hand, which costs more than factory-printed ceramics.
- Rare or statement pieces: large vases, Chinese jars and table lamps are made in small numbers and priced higher.
How to Tell Real Multani Blue Pottery
- Look for visible brush strokes and small variations between pieces; printed patterns look identical.
- Genuine pieces have a glossy glaze over cobalt blue and turquoise designs on a white base.
- Very low prices for large sets usually mean machine-made or imported pottery.
