Camel skin lamps are a traditional craft of Multan. Artisans stretch cured camel skin over a mould, let it dry into a firm, translucent shell, and then paint it by hand in floral, bird and naqashi patterns. When the lamp is switched on, light passes through the skin and gives a warm amber glow that shows off the painting. Because each lamp is shaped and painted by hand, the colours and brushwork vary slightly from piece to piece.
